Is there a way to tell if a golf club is forged or cast by looking at it?

I buy a lot of used golf clubs and don’t know if there’s a way to tell the difference, other than feel and playability between forged and cast irons. If not, is there some sort of book or comprehensive listing that gives details of history and construction of golf clubs of the past?

The forged clubs usually have the word forged stamped on it somewhere. Blades are almost all forged and cavity backs are cast. You can visit the web sites of the different manufacturers and they will show which clubs are forged and how they build your clubs.
