Wood Fairway
How do you hit a 5 wood (fairway wood), and how do you hit the 4-7 irons so that the ball will get lift?
I can’t hit a fairway wood (5 wood) at all! I get no lift, I get no distance, and I can’t hit it straight. They say (golfers) that the 5 wood is the best club in the bag. Well, if so, what do I do to get better contact. At least with the 4-7 I can hit them. But, I can’t get any height to them. Even though hit hit these clubs low, it does go over 125-150yds. But, I know they would go further if I just could get them in the air. Any golfers out there, I could sure use the advive.
It’s hard to say without seeing your swing.
I would say with the 5 wood, 4-5 irons that you need to line your front foot up with the ball and make sure you spread your legs a bit and bend your knees a bit. I would think that you should be able to hit a 5 wood at least 175-200 yards. But don’t kill the ball; nice easy swings. It’s better to hit the ball straight and 150 yeard then have a nasty hook and hit ot 225 yards.I get mine over 200 consistantly, but I’ve been playing for 15 years consistantly.
With the 6 and 7, you need to put the ball in the middle of your stance. Meaning that when you look down at the ball, your feet should have equal lengths on each side of the ball. Now, if you want more distance, then position yourself to where the ball is “up” (closer to your front foot) in your stance and visa versa if you want less distance. Nice easy swings; you may also experiment with chocking down on the club, meaning moving your hands down the shsaft of the club a bit. That may help as well.
