Sidewalk construction question re: steel left in concrete?

Will steel constructions stakes (used to supoort 2×4 forms) harm the concrete if left inside the pour area? Even if driven below the top of the form? I cannot place them outside because the forms are too close to another surface.
Of concern was the possibility moisture causing rust/corrosian due to the metal having contact with the soil…and might this be a common code violation?

The important question is will you be able to remove the wood form after the pour. The steel stake is not a problem just make sure the concrete covers the top of the stake by about 1″. The wood must be removable. Have you considered using a piece of “Expansion Joint material” instead of a “form” if the pour is to close to another surface, that’s what it’s for.

Moisture and corrosion is not a problem for a steel stake. If there is a code issue it would only be that the reinforcing steel in the slab does not contact the stakes in any way because the corrosion will travel up the stake and into the reinforcing wire, this would take several years to happen and is usually only a concern in structural concrete.
